Consider Him

It was Palm Sunday and Jesus was beginning his final week of His earthly life. They had placed garments on a donkey for Jesus to ride on into Jerusalem. They spread their garments and branches on the roadway before Him like rolling out the red carpet. They waved Palm branches and cried “hosanna”. It was a festive day, and the city was filled with excitement as they saw the prophecy of Zechariah being fulfilled.

Zechariah 9:9 NKJV

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.

The crowd was ecstatic, shouting with joy because they believed that Jesus was the Promised Messiah that would deliver them from the Roman government. People everywhere were shouting, "Hosanna in the highest, blessed be the Son of David".  This was the long-awaited moment in the life of Israel; the Messiah had come.

Jesus heard their shouts of exuberant joy; but He knew what He would face by the end of the week. He told His disciples that He would die, that He would be betrayed by a friend, tormented by his enemies, and then crucified.
