The Offense of the Cross

We sing, “On a hill far away, stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame.” But the cross has fallen on hard times. It has become so intrusive and so obtrusive that the world wants it removed altogether.

The cross on a hill far away is so far away until it’s forgotten. Even in today’s modern church, the cross is no longer central to worship. In most churches the reality of the cross is not preached! Preaching about the cross offends people, they leave and never come back.
