Whereunto Shall I Liken This Generation?

There has never been a generation in history with more material goods or comfort than this present generation. Yet despite this excess of materialism and pursuit of pleasure, the worldwide happiness index is the lowest on record. That’s because self-centered living does not produce happiness. Man has fallen in love with himself and pleasure and is obsessed with both. A doctrine has permeated the church in recent years that says God wants everyone to be happy above all else. But the Gospel calls for us to die to ourselves, to deny ourselves, and to take up the cross daily.
