Eglon was the king of Moab; he was a very proud and arrogant tyrant. He was a cruel persecutor of the people of God, yet it was God that was orchestrating the king’s actions to punish the children of Israel. Israel had turned away from God and to idols and were in bondage because of their sins. God used the weak nation of Moab as a rod of correction against Israel.
